The string/gauge theory correspondence has turned out to be a
surprisingly effective tool to compute dynamical properties of
strongly-coupled gauge theories at finite temperature. Progress has
recently been made in trying to understand the physics of mesonic
resonances which seem to survive rather deep into the phase where
gluons are deconfined. I will discuss the string theory models which
underly these calculations and the results they predict for the
dissociation of heavy-quark mesons in a quark-gluon plasma.
