I will introduce a recently found property called fortuity for supersymmetric black holes. Fortuity distinguishes microstates of black holes from those of horizonless geometries, by relating BPS states in the dual theories with different numbers of degrees of freedom. I will explore fortuity in the supersymmetric N=2 SYK models, and show that it is related to the genericity of the supercharge and leads to a concentration of BPS states at a certain R-charge. I will then apply the R-charge concentration to the N=4 SYM and give a microscopic derivation of the non-linear charge relation of the BPS black holes in AdS5. Finally, I will consider the two-flavored SYK model and discuss the relation between fortuity and chaos.
